Your first dental check-up with us always starts with a good conversation regarding your health, both oral and general. Dr Grace, Dr Lakshmi or Dr Quor will discuss with you about any dental concerns since your last dental experience. We need to be aware of your medical conditions and medications as it may impact the way that we treat and diagnose issues with your teeth. It’s also a good time to discuss any dental phobias – for some patients, fear of the dentist starts in early childhood. We will take this on board – in fact, just talking about these can actually help relieve them and build trust. As you settle into the dental chair, a scaling and polishing takes place. Expect to spend a little longer time during the first appointment with us as we get to know your concerns and goals for your dental health.

• Digital X-rays and OPG of your teeth where required. This can be performed in house which saves you time and travel.
• Oral cancer screen. We are interested in safeguarding your oral health beyond just teeth.
• Jaw muscles and joint assessment. You might be wearing down your teeth in silence.
• Oral Hygiene assessment based on your plaque level.
• A full record of your current gum and teeth conditions.
• Addressing other health issues such as clenching/grinding, mouth breathing, bad breaths, snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
• Scale & polish: the dentist uses special instruments such as an ultrasonic scaler to painlessly loosen any larger pieces of tartar, and provide deep cleaning above and below the gum line – all with a tickling vibration. Once all the surfaces are smooth, they are polished to remove stains from the teeth using a slow-speed handpiece with a soft rubber cup that spins.

Depending on your dental exam results, past dental history and level of risks for developing cavities, dental X-rays may be required. An X-ray can give the dentist a good view of your jaw alignment, any decay between teeth as well as identifying any impacted teeth, hidden abscesses, or cysts on the roots of your teeth.
