Dentures

Dentures are removable false teeth that aids in eating and speaking and restores your smile. They are made to mimic your natural teeth and gums. Depending on the number of teeth missing, your denture may replace either one lost tooth, a few teeth or all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. The dentures will sit on your gums and provide support to your lips and cheeks.
There are a few types of dentures.

  • Acrylic/plastic resin dentures.
  • Metal Dentures.

We will chat to you about which is the best denture for your needs. The dentures are custom fit to your mouth however if you have never worn a denture before, there is an adjustment period. We will provide the support for you during this time while you get used to your new set of teeth.

Dentures aren’t only used for eating, they’re important for improving the appearance and speech, and to prevent the teeth near the gaps from shifting. If you have missing teeth, the rest of your teeth are picking up the load of eating from the ones that are missing. It is important to replace the teeth that are missing to even up the biting and share the load out. If you’re missing teeth, or finding it difficult to eat, let us help you enjoy the food you love by having a new set of teeth made.

Dentures are usually made over a few appointments to ensure a tailor made set of teeth that fits your mouth like a glove.

  1. It’s important to clean your dentures twice a day. Just like your own teeth, dentures need to be cleaned morning and night. Use a soft bristle brush to ensure all of the food and debris has been removed from your denture every day. You don’t need to use toothpaste, as the silica particles in the toothpaste may scrub off the lovely shine on your dentures. Instead, try using a non abrasive cleaner such as soft hand soap.
  2. Soak your dentures. You may like to use a denture cleaner easily available from woolworths, coles or your local chemist. It is good to disinfect the dentures as part of your weekly routine.
  3. Leave your dentures out at night. When you’re sleeping, it is important to leave your dentures out of your mouth and allow your gums and teeth to be uncovered. This helps to allow any pressure points to heal and prevent a fungal infection. We recommend placing the denture in your denture box provided and allow it to air dry.
  4. Visit your dentist regularly. Even if you don’t have any teeth left, it is still important to visit the dentist. As we get older, there are changes which occur in our mouth. It is important for you to continue regular check ups to ensure your denture is continually fitting well. Our expert dentists also check your cheeks, gums and palate to ensure you do not have any infections or sore spots.
